Director of Commonwealth Virtual Library Selected
Frankfort KY (Jan 29, 1999) -
The Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) has announced the selection
of Ling-yuh W. (Miko) Pattie as the Director of the new Commonwealth Virtual Library (CVL).
Ms. Pattie, who began her new duties on January 1, had served in a temporary capacity as
Coordinator for the CVL project since April 1 of last year. She brings to the position a
distinguished career of service as an academic librarian and educator, most recently with
the University of Kentucky. Over the past several months Ms. Pattie has worked with
librarians from all over the state to make the CVL a reality beginning this summer.
Gordon K. Davies, president of the Council on Postsecondary Education, stated that "Miko
Pattie is a highly skilled librarian who is completely dedicated to making as much useful
information available to the people of Kentucky as possible. Under her guidance, the virtual
library will support students engaged in learning through the Internet, through satellite,
and in other electronic ways. It also will come to serve all the citizens of Kentucky through
college and university libraries and the public libraries of Kentucky."
The Commonwealth Virtual Library will provide electronic access to library collections all
over Kentucky and to information services all over the world. Through shared databases and
state-of the-art retrieval services, the CVL will not only provide academic support to distance
learners enrolled in the Commonwealth Virtual University, but will also be available to students
and citizens alike through existing college and public libraries.
