Director of Student Services Named for Commonwealth Virtual University

Frankfort, KY (June 22, 1999) -

Dr. Mary Beth Susman, CEO of the Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual University, today announced the selection of Gene Ranvier as Director of Student Services for the CVU. Mr. Ranvier, currently the Registrar for Morehead State University, will begin his new duties June 28.

Ranvier's professional career has focused on enabling students to realize their educational goals. As the long-time Registrar for MSU, Ranvier has exceptional experience in providing services to students.

Dr. Susman said the Director of Student Services will be responsible for administering "one stop" environment in which potential students can learn about the KCVU and enrolled students can get all the services they need from a student teleservice center via phone, fax, mail, and the Web.

"Gene Ranvier brings impressive talent and skill to the position of Director of Student Services," Dr. Susman said. "The KCVU is a highly innovative venture which will require the leadership and contributions of progressive, imaginative and highly motivated individuals like Gene Ranvier, to be successful. We are delighted Mr. Ranvier will be part of the CVU team."

The KCVU facilitates instruction and learning "any time, any place," using distance education technology enabling students to take courses via satellite, over the Internet, and through inter-active television. When fully operational, CVU students will have access to an extensive virtual library and certificate and degree programs offered by Kentucky postsecondary institutions. The KCVU's aim is to expand access to postsecondary education all across Kentucky, especially for those whose jobs and family responsibilities make it impossible to travel to the state's colleges and universities. It also will provide Kentucky students with access to the best teaching and information resources available electronically throughout the nation and the world.
