Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual University to host Australian Library Officials
FRANKFORT, KY (Jan. 19, 2000) -
Impressed and inspired by the great strides in education support and information
access Kentuckians enjoy through the Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual Library, officials with the
National Library of Australia will visit the Bluegrass State this week to learn more about KCVL
and how its technology and resources may be used to enhance Australia's electronic library services.
The National Library of Australia and KCVL share a common objective to provide access for all
their citizens to a comprehensive collection of domestic and international library materials
and documentary resources.
"The Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual Library is an excellent example of the kind of service the
National Library of Australia wants to offer to Australian citizens", said David Toll, Deputy
Director General of the National Library. "Its services to Kentuckians enable access to a wide
range of information sources, which is of great importance in the information-based global economy."
The Australian library delegation will arrive in Kentucky Jan. 20 and will meet with officials
of the Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual Library and its parent agency the Council on Postsecondary
Education Jan. 21.
Ling-yuh W. "Miko" Pattie, director of the Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual University said the
Australians' visit is a tremendous honor and further validation of KCVL's wide-reaching appeal
and success.
"We were flattered and proud to have been chosen by the Australian national library as a model
for their own electronic library services," Pattie said. "I am hopeful that we can share information
and ideas to help better our respective library services and to begin to forge a long-term, mutually
beneficial relationship with our Australian colleagues."
