KENTUCKY'S VIRTUAL UNIVERSITY OPENS SUMMER AND FALL REGISTRATION
FRANKFORT, KY (March 30, 2000) -
Registration for the Summer and Fall 2000 terms is now in progress at the
Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual University. With nearly 150 Internet-based courses, the KCVU
links students to high quality online classes offered by accredited colleges and universities
in Kentucky.
Prospective students can view the course schedule and register for classes by visiting the Web site
at www.kcvu.org. Students are encouraged to check the Web site often as classes will be added.
New this fall to the KCVU is a two-year associate's degree in arts that is completely online.
Offered in conjunction with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, the degree is
a business transfer model. It is primarily for those students who want to further their educational
development through transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor's degree.
Online courses in nine other program areas are also offered through KCVU.
KCVU students - and all Kentucky public library users - can also access the resources of the
university's full-service library, the Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual Library. Open seven days a
week, 24 hours a day, KCVL houses more than 30 databases plus scores of full-text journal articles
and other research and literary works. The Web site address is www.kcvl.org.
Created by the 1997 Higher Education Reform Act, KCVU registered 1,724 students in the Spring 2000 term,
over a 700 percent increase from the inaugural Fall 1999 term. KCVU is appealing to non-traditional students
who are very busy with careers and raising families.
