Former CECC president named Smithsonian Laureate

Mary Beth Susman, former member of the Denver Planning Board and the Lowry
Redevelopment Authority, was honored as a Smithsonian Laureate in ceremonies conducted on the
National Mall in Washington, D.C. April 21.
She received the recognition for her work with the Kentucky Commonwealth Virtual University,
of which she is the Chief Executive Officer. The Virtual University is a statewide, Internet
agency where people can register for and earn course credit from the Kentucky institutions of
their choice completely on the Web.
As part of the ceremonies, the planning and implementation documents of the Kentucky Commonwealth
Virtual University were placed in the permanent American History collection of the Smithsonian
Institution as an example of how technology is being used to further the economic, social, and
education development of the United States.
Before moving to Kentucky last year, Susman was a longtime resident of Denver, President of the
Colorado Electronic Community College located at Lowry, and active in Denver community issues.
