Council on Postsecondary Education receives $400,000 U.S. Department of Education grant

FRANKFORT, Ky. (October, 2002) - The Council on Postsecondary Education has received a $400,000, three-year grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, sponsored by the U.S. Department for Education. The grant will fund the development and implementation of an electronic guidance office that will serve all Kentuckians.

The Kentucky Virtual University, a unit of the Council, will develop and oversee the project to be known as the Kentucky Virtual University Coordinated Advising Network, or “U CAN.”

“U CAN will serve students in middle school, high school and college, as well as online students and adult learners pursuing a GED and workplace skills,” explained Daniel Rabuzzi, CEO of the virtual university. “The coordinated network will be an interactive, initial point of contact for pre-admission, academic, career and financial aid counseling,” he added.

Lead partners in U CAN are the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, the Kentucky Department for Adult Education and Literacy, the Kentucky Department of Education (Kentucky Virtual High School), Gear Up Kentucky and the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority.
